HONOLULU – Deren Oshiro, CMAA, Director of Athletics at Hawaii Baptist Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a candidate for an at-large Region B position on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Board of Directors. The election will take place at the 53rd National Athletic Directors Conference (NADC), December 9-13, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Oshiro, the Section 7 candidate, which represents Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah, is running against the Section 2 candidate, which serves Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virgina.

The NIAAA Board of Directors is comprised of eight (8) section representatives and four (4) at-large members. Each board member serves a minimum 3-year term and if elected to an office position, the term will be extended.

Oshiro was selected as the Section 7 nominee at the section meeting this past March in Las Vegas. He is also a member of the NIAAA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Committee as well as the NADC Advisory Committee.

An athletic administrator for 22 years, Oshiro is currently serving as president of the Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association.  He has overseen HIADA’s incorporation as a nonprofit organization, as well as its search for an executive director.
