Hawaii Athletic Trainer Receives National Recognition
Cynthia Clivio, MEd, ATC, Supervisory Athletic Trainer at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus, was awarded Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) for her outstanding service and dedication to the profession. She received her B.Ed and MEd from the University of Hawaii-Manoa and has been an thletic trainer at Kamehameha Schools for 26 years. Cynthia played an integral role in piloting the athletic health care trainer program in 10 public high schools in 1993. This program has grown to include 75 full time athletic trainers (ATs) in public high schools throughout the state. Cynthia is the most recent past chair of the Hawaii Athletic Trainers' Association (HATA) legislative and governmental affairs committee and helped gain registration for ATs in Hawaii, which went into effect January 2013.
She is also apart of numerous national and statewide committees and has previously held positions such as HATA president from 1998-2004. The award will be presented at the NATA Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada in June 2013.
Originating in 1986, the Hawaii Athletic Trainers' Association (HATA) is non-profit organization that was established to enhance the quality of health care provided by certified athletic trainers and to advance the athletic training profession in Hawaii. With a state-wide membership of over 190 certified athletic trainers, HATA is the largest organization of its kind in the state.
