Now in it's 23rd year, the 'Iolani Prep Classic, taking advantage of the new state athletic schedule that has both girls and boys playing in the same season, has added a girls division. The local girls teams competing are host 'Iolani, Moanalua, Kamehameha, Roosevelt and Punahou. Mainland teams are Redondo, Granada and Narbonne.
Host 'Iolani opened the tournament with a 51-29 win over Moanalua.
In the second game, it was the Kamehameha Warriors taking on powerful Redondo, repeating the matchup of the finals in the Ann Kang Volleyball Tournament. This time it was Redondo besting the Warriors, 44-29.
Punahou, ranked number one in the state preseason polls, had no trouble with Granada (Livermore, CA), 59-30.
And, in the final game of the first day, powerhouse Narbonne (Harbor City, CA) dispatched Roosevelt, 88-51.
The matchups for the second day will be Moanalua vs Kamehameha (3:30pm), Granada vs Roosevelt (5:00pm), 'IoIani vs Redondo (6:30pm), and Punahou vs Narbonne (8:00pm).
The final day of the girls tournament will be Saturday, December 15th. The Division II Boys take over starting on Monday, December 17th, with Division I starting on Tuesday, December 18th.
