ILH CROSS COUNTRY: ILH Cross Country starts up
| |
Waipio was warm, muggy, wet, slippery, muddy and SLOW! But that didn't stop the many ILH runners who gathered to get the 2007 cross-country season started. There were 5 races - boys intermediate, girls intermediate, girls open, JV/varsity boys combined and girls varsity. The intermediate and open races were 2 miles, the boys JV/varsity and the girls varsity were 3 miles. This meet and the next one, at Kaawa Valley, are practice meets which means they are unscored. Each team is responsible for recording places and times if they want to, and most do.

This writer was looking forward to the varsity girls matchup of Iolani
and Punahou. But, it didn't happen as Punahou elected to run the
varsity in the open 2 mile race. This left the girls varsity to Iolani
and Maryknoll who placed most of their runners in the top 20. The
Maryknoll girls took 1st, 6th, 8th, 10th and 18th. The Iolani girls
took 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 20th. When Punahou joins the fray and
Kamehameha starts running hard, I expect things to change quite a bit.
The girls varsity looks to be the most exciting in recent history.
On the boys side, 5 different teams took the 1-5 places, HBA, MPI, St.
Louis, Kamehameha and Iolani. But, it was only Kamehameha and Iolani
that could place 5 runners in the top 20. Kamehameha took 4, 7, 8, 9
and 10. Iolani placed 5, 6, 11, 13 and 20. At this point it certainly
looks like a two team race, but as everyone knows, it's a long season
and things can change by States.
