FOOTBALL: West Defeats East In HUB Goodwill Bowl
HONOLULU – The West All-Stars scored two unanswered touchdown in the second half to defeat the East All-Stars, 21-14, in the HUB Goodwill Bowl Friday night at Aloha Stadium. Jonathan Ligsay’s 5-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter proved to be the winning score.
The East built a 14-7 lead at halftime after a pair of touchdown catches by Keean Hoohuli and Drake Miller. But he West tied the game on a Iosua Manuma 6-yard pass to Kahi Perbera with just under four minutes left in the third quarter. The West then got a huge break just minutes later when the East muffed a punt return at their own 5-yard line, which was recovered by Anthony Tokunaga. Moments later Ligsay punched it in from 5-yards out for the decisive score.
Much of the second half was played in driving rain. In the end, the West out-gained the East, 310-272, including a 155-53 advantage rushing. Perbera led the West with 73 yards rushing. Drake Miller was the offensive standout on the East with a pair of receptions for 91 yards.
