In the end, the mainland teams showed their prowess by capturing all spots in the Saturday championship rounds of the 26th Annual Ann Kang Invitational held at 'Iolani School. The only local team to even make the championship round was 'Iolani. The Saturday contenders were Newport Harbor, Los Alamitos, Wilson, Mira Costa, Corona Del Mar and Redondo. Local teams competing were HBA, Iolani (varsity and JV), Kahuku, Mililani, Moanalua, Molokai, Pearl City, Punahou, Radford, Sacred Hearts and Word of Life. Mainland teams were Corona Del Mar, Harvard Westlake, Los Alamitos, Mira Costa, Newport Harbor, Redondo Union, San Marcos and Wilson. Saturday saw Mira Costa continue it's unbeaten streak, beating Wilson and Newport Harbor, before meeting Wilson again in the finals. Mira Costa, led by 6'3" Falyn Fonoimoana who may be the best female high school player in the country, is a very, very strong team. Wilson was able to mount a very strong attack, though, and stretched Mira Costa to 3 games and a very exciting final with Wilson refusing to give up and constantly coming back. The final score was 26-24, 25-27 and 15-11.
