Waialua's Peka Kalulu-Sugai had 10 kills and Mid-Pacific's Michelle Robinson and La Pietra's Kanani Souza each added nine kills Thursday night to help the South All-Stars outlast the East, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 22-25, 16-14 and win the Fifth Annual OC16 Senior Goodwill Girls Volleyball Classic.
The four-team, two-day tournament was held at McKinley's Student Council Gym, with gate receipts donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
Kahuku's Pati Anae added eight kills and five blocks and one ace and Kaiser's Annika Rigterink also had eight kills and five blocks. The South trailed, 9-4, in the fifth set and fought off match point at 14-12 and 14-13 before rallying for the victory.
In the third-place match, Pearl City's Kaya Chong had 12 kills, three aces and two blocks, Castle's Ku'ulei Lynch added 11 kills and two blocks and Kamehameha's Pikake Laumauna finished with 10 kills and four blocks to help the West hold off the North, 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 27-29, 15-8.
Roosevelt's Alida Holt added nine kills, two blocks and an ace, La Pietra's Salote Lopes-Liutolo contributed three kills and Moanalua's Kasse-Ann Kiriu-Dela Cruz finished with two kills and two aces for the West.
Farrington's Trinity Alualu had a match-high 22 kills to go with two blocks and 'Iolani's Loxley Keala added 12 kills and one ace. Maryknoll's Alexa Dowdell contributed nine kills and a block, Campbell's Brandi Wilson finished with eight kills and one ace and Sacred Hearts' Maria Leineweber added four kills, two blocks and two aces.
