Ikaika Phillip scored a game-high 13 points and Zach Buscher and Robbie Mann each added 10 points Saturday night to help ‘Iolani pull away from visiting Kamehameha, 50-37, in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys basketball opener for both teams.
The Warriors took a 24-22 lead on Kayson Smith-Bejgrowiscz's layup three minutes into the second half, but Erik Yamada converted a three-point play with 4:53 remaining in the third period to start the Raiders on a 14-4 run that put them up, 36-28, entering the fourth.
Kamehameha closed it to 41-35 after Noa Kinimaka's three-point play with 4:29 left in the game, but Kamu Borden answered with his own three-point play eight seconds later to help ‘Iolani close out the game with a 9-2 run.
