Balanced scoring by Roosevelt was a main factor in their victory.
Tiana Sugui led the way with 12points followed by teammates Iwalani
Rodrigues and Dianna Zane with 11 points each.
Roosevelt coach Bobby Keanini commented after the game, "we did a
good job in making the extra pass and making things happen on offense."
The Lady Rough Riders jumped outto an early 6-2 lead behind the
scoring of Rodrigues, who scored two of Roosevelt;s first three baskets
off steals. From there, Farrington slowed the game by utilizing a
patient first-court offense to work their way back into thecontest.
TheLady Governor's efforts wasa successas they eventuallytied the score
midway in the second quarter at 15-all.
At that point, Roosevelt took off and never looked back, scoring the
next six points for a 21-15 halftime lead then added five morepoints at
the start of the third quarter for a 26-15 advantage. Sugui and
Zanelater scored back-to-back 3-pointers at the end of the third period
to give Roosevelt a 36-21 lead heading into the final quarter.
Roosevelt kept up their defensiveintensity in the final quarter to prevent Farrington frommountinga comeback.
"I look at this game as just one more game towards achieving our
team's goals,"said Zane. "Everybody playedreallywell tonight. My
teammates helped me out a lot in executing plays and contributing with
their passing."
Rodrigues added, "I think we playeda good gametonight with everyone
contributing, especially in sharing the ball.At the
beginning,Farrington played good defense.That cause usto havetrouble
at, but we got with it and started doing the things we do in practice."
Coach Kealoha said his team will not look past Kaimiki when they
play the Lady Bulldogs on their home courton Tuesday, April 17. "They
(Kaimiki) are a tough team to play. We are going to go in that game
like we are 0-0 and work on executing our plays and focusing on playing
better defense.We have a lot of work to do and we can improve. We look
at ourselves and the kids look at themselves as individuals to seek out
areas of the game where we can improve."
Zane agreed with Kealoha, "we're going to just play the rest of the
season game by game. We first must get past Kaimiki before we think
about anybody else. We didn't make that many mistakes tonight ,
but we have to refocus and continue to work hard in practice."
Farrington coach Jenic Tumaneng said Roosevelt is a tough team to
beat. "We knew at the start that Roosevelt would be prepared. They have
an excellent trio of players in Rodrigues, Zane and Sugui. For us, we
lost some key players early in the season and we are trying to continue
to improveso we canhopefully make it into the (OIA) playoffs in the
next couple of weeks."
During the game, another Farrington player got injured when starting
guard Cani Kealoha collided with a Roosevelt player in the second
quarter and sustained a cut over her right eye.
In other OIA games on Friday night, Moanalua got past Kahuku 67-50
behind 21-point by Jamie Ronolo and 18 points by Britni Ronolo, Aiea
improved to 6-3 with a 65-47 victory over Kapolei, Mililani edged
Nanakuli 39-36, McKinley beat Kaiser 58-39 via a 32-11 second-half
performance, and Kailua fell on their home court to Castle 44-34.
