HHSAA Division II GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Leilehua defeats Seabury Hall

The Leilehua Mules of the Oahu Interscholastic Association won its opening match over Seabury Hall of the Maui Interscholastic League, Wednesday, October 27th in the Division II bracket of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championship at McKinley Student Council Gym in Honolulu.
The victors seized the first two sets 26-24 and 25-13 then the fourth set by the score of 25-21. Seabury Hall captured the third set, winning 25-21.
Leilehua outside hitter Ashlee Vaoifi led the way with 14 kills and
teammate Samantha Talaeai added eight kills. Carly Wright and Regal
Deen-Jackson each had six kills for Seabury Hall.

Hawaii Prep is undefeated this season with a 13-0 record. Last season
Hawaii Prep won the consolation bracket of the HHSAA Division 2 tourney.
“We just went out there and just had fun,” Leilehua senior team captain
Tatiana Alailima said after the match. “This has been a long season, but
it’s a joy to earn the right to play in this tournament.”
Junior Krystin Kubo of Leilehua added, “We are going to play our best to
win. The competitive here at state is tough, but we are going to give
everything we got.”
In the second round of the tourney, Leilehua (12-4) will go head-to-head
against fourth seeded Hawaii Prep of the Big Island Interscholastic
Federation on Thursday, October 28 at 5 p.m. at McKinley.

Ashlee Vaoifi had 14 kills and Leilehua had 11 aces in a 26-24, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21 victory over Seabury Hall at McKinley.
Kayla Kilaulani had four aces and Vaoifi added three for Leilehua, which will play No. 4 seed Hawaii Prep today in a quarterfinal match. Samantha Talaei finished with eight kills.
Seabury Hall’s Brandi Vierra had eight kills, and Carly Wright and Regal Deen-Jackson each added. Deen-Jackson and Taylor Rudow each had four blocks for the Spartans, who will play Waimea today in a consolation match.
In the first set, Kayla Kilaulani served four in a row as Leilehua took a 20-12 lead, but the Spartans answered with an 8-0 run with Ariana Emde serving to tie it at 20-20. The match was tied at 24-24 before a kill and ace by Talaei won it for Leilehua. The Mules’ Vaoifi had five kills without an error in the set.
The second set was tied at 6-6 before the Mules took control. Vaoifi had four kills and three aces in the set.
Seabury Hall led the third set 21-13 before Leilehua scored seven of the next nine to get within three. The Spartans scored their final two points on kills by Lena Fox and Deen-Jackson.
Seabury Hall led the fourth 20-19 before the Mules rallied to victory. Tatiana Alailima had two kills during Leilehua’s match-ending 6-1 run.
