Keke Williams scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to help Farrington run past Pahoa, 58-45, for the Hawaiian Airlines/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II Boys Basketball State Championship.
The victory at the Stan Sheriff Center capped off an 18-1 season for the Governors in the regular and postseason. It was their second DII state title in four years.
Pahoa, the 2010 champ, finished at 11-7.
A layup by Williams sparked an early 8-0 run capped by Jeffery Madarang’s 3-pointer to put Farrington up, 11-3, and an alley-oop lay-in by Michael Klemen gave the Govs a 17-5 lead at the end of the first period.
Farrington stretched it to 32-13 after Chadey Collazo’s 3-pointer with 1:03 before halftime, before Nicklas Fisher hit a bank shot and layup to close it to 32-17 at the break.
A 3-pointer by Devin Gonsalves cut the deficit to 38-32 just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, but the Governors responded with a 12-0 run capped by Clem Rarogal’s two free throws that made it 50-32 with 4:36 remaining.
The Daggers could not get closer than the final score after that.
Fisher, a 6-foot sophomore swingman, finished with a game-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds and three steals. Farrington guard J.P. Saycon, a 6-foot junior, scored 11 points – including a spectacular soaring fast-break dunk in traffic – and added six assists and two steals.
